Business Gift Etiquette

[dropcap style=”font-size: 60px; color: #4c1970;”] B [/dropcap]uying gifts in the corporate arena can be a little challenging at times.  Usually, the goal is to impress your recipient in a small way, if anything, with just the fact that they are receiving a gift! But this must be accomplished with other factors in mind… choosing a memorable, creative  gift they will enjoy while staying within your budget… and here in lies the challenge.  Here are some tips to make sure your next gift is a hit!

1. Determine your gift purpose.

This can be one of the most important factors in choosing your gift.  What are you trying to accomplish?  Is this a thank you gift for a great client?  Perhaps you are rewarding an employee for a job well done.  Is this a wedding or baby gift for a co-worker? Is this a holiday gift?  The purpose of your gift can help you determine your budget and the type of gift you give, so make sure you nail this one!

2.  Set Your Budget

In some cases, this may have already been done for you.  If you’re using the corporate account to purchase your gift, you may already have limits.  If not, set limits for yourself anyway- and make sure you stay within them.  This can be especially helpful when purchasing multiple gifts.  Also keep in mind that you want your gift to be perceived as a “gift” not as a “bribe”.  Sometimes spending more isn’t always better.  Be practical yet gracious when setting your budget and you’ll do fine.

3. To Logo or Not to Logo… that is the question!

There are definitely times when logo’d gifts are in order- plastic pens, mugs, and folders are great for expos and giveaways- but for special occasions and various recognition, sometimes they are not appreciated.  When you give a gift that creates a lasting impression- you won’t even need your logo!  The gift itself will help you to be remembered!

4.  Select the gift!

Now that you have all of your ducks in a row you’re ready to choose your gift! Keeping your purpose, occasion, and budget in mind, you will have many choices.  If you know anything about your recipient, try to get something they will enjoy personally! For example, if your recipient loves being pampered, spa gifts are always a well received gift.  The golfer, will always accept golfing gifts, etc.  If you’re not sure of what to get try our Merchandise Gift Cards!  These gifts are perfect because they allow the recipient to choose their own gift without displaying the purchase price!

What ever you choose as your gift,  don’t stress over making “the perfect” selection.  Try to be original in your gift choice while keeping in mind your budget, occasion, and purpose.  Your gift recipient will be happy you thought of them, and appreciate any gift you give!
